Rocky Point new International Airport update

Puerto Penasco, or “Rocky Point” as it is commonly referred to in the U.S., is one of the fastest growing real estate markets and tourist hot spots in Mexico. Rocky Point, which is less than 100 miles south of the border, is entering into the high-end vacation destination category currently captured by Cabo San Lucas and Acapulco. Because of this, there is a need for more infrastructure to support the growing tourism market. Currently, the biggest project in the plans to do this is a new International airport for Rocky Point. The planned airport will rival the size of the Tucson airport in Arizona and will increase the amount od Rocky Point Rentals. The $50 million International airport in “Rocky Point” will accommodate large passenger planes. Reservations at the Point has discovered that the first airstrip is projected for completion in late-2007 and the entire project in 2009. Former President of Mexico, Vicente Fox recently visited and toured the new airport location. Reservations at the Point is hoping to learn more on the progress of the airport and there will be another news article released as we have future updates and facts available. In closing, below are a few interesting stats on the current growth in Rocky Point which help the need for the new airport….. — A recent study by the Mexican Secretariat of Urban Infrastructure and Ecology (SIUE) indicates that “Rocky Point” is projected to grow from its current population base of 40,000 to 170,000 residents over the next three years, and demand for accommodations, including hotel rooms, villas and condos, will rise from 9,326 to more than 64,000 — According to Mayor Heriberto Renteria Sanchez, there are more than 1,500 condominium units currently under construction in Penasco
