Saturday March 7th was another beautiful day in Rocky Point. The “Spring Breakers” officially have started arriving.
Along with the beautiful Rocky Point weather this weekend was the Mermaid Market at Shrimp Park. From talking to the vendors, everyone had the best market yet. They even had a new vendor from Caborca, a town about 90 miles from here, who was selling olive and grape seed oil, asparagus, chili and many other things.
Next came the Antique Car Show with vintage vehicles from Baja Mexico which included Mexicali and Puerto Penasco. They were the hit of the parade on Saturday along with the Zumba dancers and bike 5k. Understand from a friend, that last little rider was about 3 years old on a tricycle with his momma pushing him. Bet she was one sore lady on Sunday! That is why we love Puerto Penasco as well as most of Mexico, as everyone is so family orientated.
Back to car show. It was held at our brand new convention center which is a lovely facility. It was a toss up which car I liked best. I did learn a lot about them with things such as the round tube that was on the side passenger window to act as an air conditioner. Really impressive! The colors were vibrant and some of the air brushing incredible. I did learn something also that my Spanish needs a lot of work. I asked an older gentleman the age of his 2 cars and he replied with his age……. I went wrong some where.
I think my 2 favorites were the 1957 Chevrolet and 1936 Ford that the hood opened from the sides. My compliments to all the gentlemen for allowing me to take pictures of their cars. My other favorite in the truck division with the red truck and the other parked next to it as you will see in the pictures.
I hope when they come next year , we will see even more vehicles and people attending. This is a perfect event for people of all ages and is a family event as well. In Rocky Point we have many locals with vintage vehicles and love seeing them. There is gentleman that has a large collection including old ambulances and a Cadillac with the suicide doors. The red Mustang that you see in the photos is owned by a gentleman that we have coffee with in the mornings… when he started it up, oh what a sweet sweet sound!!
After that it was off to Mariachi and Tequila for the best margarita. My husband Bill and I each had a Mexican combo plate that were to die for. I must say the salsa was the best we have ever had and after living in New Mexico, that says a lot. If you like salsa with heat and flavor, go out to Rodeo Drive and stop in. The old dirt mall is changing with new shops and looks of the buildings. No long “shack 5th avenue” as we use to call it.
