Is Puerto Penasco safe for vacation?

Puerto Penasco aka “Rocky Point”  has been a favorite place to vacation for many years for people from Arizona,  It is referred to as “Arizona’s Beach”.

Over the past few years, it has become a place for people to vacation from California, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and the Pacific Northwest as well. For visitors coming from Phoenix or Tucson, it is a short 3 1/2 to 4-hour drive. Once across the border at Lukeville, it is only an hour’s drive to Puerto Penasco.

Is it safe to drive to Puerto Penasco?

The highway is a good road and is patrolled by the Green Angles, who are there to help if you have car troubles. They carry gas and can fix tires if you need them. When driving in summer, it is recommended to carry plenty of water just in case you have car issues. One more word of advice, is when traveling through Sonoyta, make sure to stop for 5 seconds at stop signs and maintain all posted speed limits as they do change as you are driving in the town. Puerto Penasco is a very safe place to vacation

Its increasing popularity as a beach destination for vacation also brought more security to Rocky Point in Mexico. There are so many lodging options to choose from, from beachfront hotels, condos, and beach homes There is something for every size group and all are well-maintained accommodations. Some of the beach homes in Las Conchas can hold over 20 people. The homes and condos have everything needed to make your vacation a dream come true. Just pack your personal things and enjoy.

There is Sam’s Club in Rocky Point as well as several produce stores, fruit stores, meat markets, fresh seafood stalls on the Malecon as well LEY’s grocery chain for everything else that you may need. If you are a wine drinker, El Tapeo has a great selection of Mexican wines from the Valle de Guadalupe. At Sam’s Club, you can find a large selection of liquor, beer, wines, and champagnes. What to do in Puerto Penasco

There are so many water activities to choose from that the whole family can find something to do. The kids can ride the Banana boats, families can do 1/2 day or full day fishing trips on the charter boat Pancho Villa. You may want to go out with ECO Tours to Bird Island to kayak with the Sea Lions or take one of their sunset cruises. The children can go exploring in the tide pools to find octopuses or other types of sea life. If you stay in Las Conchas, you can spend hours combing the beach for sea shells.

If you like to shop, you can choose to go to the Malecon for gifts or souvenirs. Another great place to shop is Rodeo Drive, where you can buy nice clothing, and home décor or pick up a piece of art from one of the local artisans. On the 1st and 3rd Saturday from October to April, plan to attend the Mermaid Market in Shrimp Park. Here you will find things from local artists as well as fresh baked bread and vendors with homemade jams and jellies. The artists also have hand-crafted greeting cards, apparel, paintings, photography, wine bottle lights, BBQ and tamales as well as Mermaid specialty margaritas or other adult drinks.  It is a great place to spend part of your day.
