Dia de la Independencia or Mexican Independence Day will soon be upon us. This holiday has so much historic meaning in Mexico. It celebrates the gaining it’s independence from Spain in 1810. It was the night of September 15th that cry of El Grito rang out with the ringing of the church bells in Dolores Hildago. Every year this is rein-acted in every city in Mexico.
This year, will be much different due to the Corona Virus and in Puerto Penasco. Mayor Kiko Munro will still give his address but it will be done on Face Book so he will not be speaking to the full room of the building across from City Hall by the library. The call to El Grito will also be done minus the 1000’s of people who surround City Hall every year as well. Normally it is a big party with music, great food booths and vendors selling the Mexican flags and clothing, but not in 2020.

If you are looking to buy items like flags and apparel, you will be able to find them on the street corners and in front of Bodega which is located next to Sam’s Club.
Sit back and enjoy everything in the comfort of your home. I have not confirmed but I am sure it will be on TV as well.
