Come out and enjoy the fun.

In Puerto Peñasco, there are charity events nearly all year long.  So when Santiago Ruiz, director of Casa Hogar home for the elderly came aboard 4 years ago he knew he had to find something different to raise funds.  So he started the Charganga Derby for teens and adults.  Every year that event is held in spring has grown not only in the amounts of contestants but onlookers as well.

Last year in October, it was decided that they do the Charganga Derby (soap box derby) for children ages 4 – 12 years old.  It was an instant success, so now they are onto year number 2. He remarked how competitive these kids are.  This event will be held October 19th on the little hill that comes from the beach on Sinaloa and Blvd Kino.to where it meets Blvd.

To give you a little information on Casa Hogar home for the elderly, it is not a state or city funded nursing home. It house’s 21 elderly many of whom have no family members to take care of them or pay for their care.  That is the maximum the facility can handle. They do an outstanding job of keeping Casa Hogar up.

He currently has a waiting list to get in of over 50 people and calls are coming from as far away as Hermosillo which is the capitol of Sonora.

If you are interested, I am sure they can use volunteers as well. If you are a knitter, I know that they appreciate having booties or lap robes knitted or crocheted. They are always in need of cleaning supplies. If you would like to donate supplies, send me an email and I can tell you what they are in need of.

Come out and join the fun while enjoying the beautiful weather in Puerto Peñasco and the stunning  Sea of Cortez views.  Remember Rocky Point is only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix or Tucson.
