This festival is very well attended and if you want to learn more abo0ut the music of Mexico, this is a must thing to go to. It is held in the Old Port with music and art for everyone. The event is free and is very family oriented. It is held on the Plaza de Governors with the Sea of Cortez as the backdrop. The weather is perfect for sitting out and listening to the outstanding entertainment.
The Cervantino Festival started in the colonial city of Guanajuato 47 years ago in 1972. It is now the most important international cultural and artistic festival both in Mexico and Latin America. In Puerto Peñasco the first festival started in 2015 and has been bringing some very well know international musicians and song artists here since then. The lead performer is Guadalupe Pineda who has been singing on the International stage for 44 years The Mexican reggae group Rastrillos, The Salmeron, Tastes and Sone of the Hot Land, Fine Art Dance Company, Elena Rivera and other opera and Latin America artists will also perform. Many local and regional groups from Puerto Peñasce and Sonora will also preform.
Again, during the 4 day festival you will find workshops on literature, music, crafts, history, theatre conferences and of course food. Generally many of the local artists will be set up above the stairs giving demonstrations and selling their art. I guarantee if you have not gone to this festival in previous years, it is really worth planning a trip down to see it. Again the event is free to the public. Bring a chair or a cushion to sit on even though there is seating available.
