Puerto Peñasco also known as Rocky Point has seen the booms and the busts over the years. But now it appears we are in full throttle ahead mode with new businesses opening all over town. It is so encouraging to see this happening. Another thing that is great about these new venues is that the owners are young a forward thinking and a different vision of business.
One of the new businesses to open their door is Sonoran Meats which is located on Josefa Dominguez and Juan Aldama on the east side of Josefa. The owner David was formerly with JC’s Meats on Benito Juarez and they are featuring Sonoran Beef, well known for it’s flavor and tenderness. They will be open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm and will cater to the public as well as supply restaurants. David speaks English so he can always help you out if your Spanish is not that good. They will carry sonoran meat, sonoran beef, sonoran pork, sonoran chicken, tomahawk, porterhouse, primerib, ribeye, new york, arrachera and more. If you are into smoking meat have them trim up a brisket for you or it makes wonderful homemade corned beef. In addition to the meat, they will carry pork, chicken and favorite Sonoran products like Coyotas, Jamoncillos, Chiltepin, dry meats, machaca and several dry rubs for meats. I did a NY steak from there on Saturday night and it was so good.
Another new addition the restaurant scene is La Loteria Cantina and Grill which recently opened up on Blvd. Freemont. As the one of the owners, Julio A. Colorada, a Rocky Point native told me to him “it is all about the grilling of things”. Since the have opened, they have been great reviews for the rich food as well as the great service. It is decorated in a beautiful Mexican décor and features a full bar as well as a great selection of Mexican Mezcals (which have been gaining a lot of traction over the past few year.) I just read 2 articles on Mezcal in Sunset Magazine and Bon Apetite Magazine. This resturant is a very new and innovated concept. They feature a vast array of steaks, seafood, chicken and Mexican dishes. I am told they are saving Picaña, which steak served on a sword it is outstanding. They are open from 4:00 pm to 2:00 am. Below is their menu.
Come out and join the fun while enjoying the beautiful weather in Puerto Peñasco and the stunning Sea of Cortez views. Remember Rocky Point is only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix or Tucson.
