If you are a beer drinker and love craft or artisan beer, you have to look no further than some of our local restaurants and you won’t have to haul it from the United States. Both the states of Sonora and Baja Norte are doing some outstanding micro brews. These beers are now available at El Tapeo, Collins Cantina and one of the newest restaurants La Arena 3c ( Which is old Southside Jills on Calle 13).
So between these 2 states in northern Mexico, you can buy Bacanora at many restaurants, choose from many craft beers from Puerto Peñasco, Mexicali, Tijuana, Ensenada and Hermosillo or you can also find at fine dining restaurants along with wines from the Valle de Guadalupe which is located between Ensenada and Tecate. The brew masters put a lot of thought a quality in their beer.
If you are vacationing for any length and want to take a mini vacation, I would encourage you to go to the Valle de Guadalupe and then to Ensenada as now that road not offers you “The Wine Trail” but the “Craft Beer Trail. You will not be disappointed. In the Valle de Guadalupe you will find over 100 small boutique wineries as well as some of the large ones like LA Cetto.
I recently spoke with Laura Palacio owner of El Tapeo who has the largest selection in Rocky Point. They are doing monthly beer tastings with beers made locally in Rocky Point as well as those from the other cities I have mentioned. The next tasting with be on June 30th at 6 p.m. and reservations are not necessary. They carry beer from 25 breweries and having at least 4 – 5 selections from each one. The beers range from Pale Ales, Honey Beer, IPA’s, Coffee Stouts and more.
There will be a Beer Festival July 6th at La Arena 3C starting at 6:00 p.m. Admission is only $100 pesos and gets you a glass and a beer and samples. There will also be great music as well as BBQ. Check the flyer to see what is happening. The weather has been wonderful, so hoping it holds out for this event.
Come out and join the fun while enjoying the beautiful weather in Puerto Peñasco and the stunning Sea of Cortez views. Remember Rocky Point is only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix or Tucson.
