Well we survived another Semana Santa in Rocky Point. There were several thousand people here from many other states in Mexico. It was evident that they all drive different in other states. But the amount of money that is pumped into our economy is worth the little bit of inconvenience we go through with all the extra traffic.
Many years ago Cinco de Mayo was not a big event in Puerto Peñasco, it has become one today. This year there will also be a Tequila Fest that I spoke about previously, so I would encourage you to come on down an attend. It costs very little and you will get to sample many Tequilas of Mexico as well as local food.
The next big holiday will be Memorial Day. This is probably the 2nd largest holiday we have for people coming from the USA. If you don’t already have reservations, you may be out of luck. Most hotels book up a year in advance. You also need to be prepared for long traffic lines coming into Mexico and well as going back to the United States. The heaviest traffic will be Friday afternoon and then again on Sunday. Many people are starting to stay until Monday morning or even Tuesday to go back in order to avoid the long lines. The good news is the weather will be wonderful and the water perfects for swimming or any water sports.

As you may know we have many food and wine festivals in Mexico so on the Memorial Day weekend we will also have our 1st Braza Fest or “Ember Fest”. This is outdoor grilling of seafood, beef and other items and it will be held at the Peñasco del Sol Hotel on May 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.. The entrance fee of $150 pesos includes all the food samplings but not drinks. You will find other items such as reginal wines, Bacanora, regional gourmet products and music. The event is open to everyone with the proceeds going to 2 FISH Ministries. This is event is held in a picture perfect setting right on the Sea of Cortez. Come and spend the day learning more about not only what Puerto Peñasco has to offer but the State of Sonora as well.
Don’t forget to take advantage of all the sunset cruises while you are in town. There are now so many to choose from and they will include either a full bar or margaritas and beer. While you are heading out to watch the always spectacular sunsets, you may be accompanied by many dolphin, so have those cameras ready. Check out Pancho Villa Cruises, Eco Tours and Sol Chaser, Intrepid, Señorita Rita, Del Mar Charters, The Pirate Ships and more.
