It is amazing the January 2019 is almost over! Although we had several events such as the Roger Clyne January Jam Fest, the Annual Golf Tournament at Las Palomas that featured Luis Gonzales of the Diamond Backs and more it was quiet. February will be jam packed with events.
One of the most exciting thing to many is that in February, the WHALES make their appearance. As of this writing, they have been spotted 20 miles out, so this means they will start to come closer to the port area. Want to go Whale Watching you have many choices such as the Pancho Villa, Eco Fun, Sol Chaser and many more.
February 2nd will be the 2nd Annual Seafood Festival Rotary Fundraiser. This is known as Fish Bowl 2019. Here you will also find the Mermaid Market, which is a collection of local artists and vendors. Many local restaurants will provide food samples as well as beverages and there will be music as well. Plan to spend the day shopping and tasting the food while listening to local musicians. Admission is FREE. You can buy food and drink tickets for $1.00 USD each and the samples will take between 1 and 5 tickets. You will not be disappointed. The event will be held at Plaza Del Camaron also known as Shrimp Park, on the corner of Benito Juarez and Blvd. Freemont. The event will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Fish Bowl 1 was a huge success, so I am certain the 2nd one will be even better. The following restaurants will be there: Puesta del Sol, El Tapeo, Mare Blu, Mariscos El Malecon, UTPP Culinary School,The Oyster House, Coffee Point, Puerto Viejo (coffee), Sushi Sun and Jerry’s Banquets and 5 more are signing up. There will great raffle prizes such as a hotel stay at Playa Bonita, 2 tickets to Circus Mexicus 2019, Mexican Moonshine, gifts from the vendors at the Mermaid Market, Lucy Spa certificate, dinner certificates from various restaurants and more.

February 14th is Valentines Day so many of the restaurants will be having Valentine’s Day Specials. Check this site for further details. If you want to buy flowers for that special person in your life, there are several florists in town as well as the young men selling roses on the street corners and in the bars and restaurants.

February 22nd and 23rd is the SADR (Southern Arizona Desert) annual racing event which will cover 160 miles. Sonoyta 160 is an offroad desert race comprised of trucks, buggies, motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs. The event was organized with the cooperation of the Sonoyta city government and SADR promoters Todd & Rene Elam. The event will host tech and contingency Friday Feb 22nd with racing Sat. Feb 23rd. The course will start in downtown Sonoyta and cross the hwy to Puerto Peñasco and Carborca twice. This may effect traffic to some extent. The course will be a 160 mile loop, starting and finishing in the same spot. Participants will be from not only the Sonoyta/Puerto Peñasco/Caborca area, but several other towns in Mexico along with racers from the United States. There are also 2 classes and that is PRO and SPORTSMAN. If you are planning a rip down, remember the vent starts in down Sonoyta so there may be delays.
