U.S. Consulate Opens Virtual Office in Rocky Point

Us Consulate in Rocky Point

The Consulate General of the United States of America based in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico has opened a Virtual office in Puerto Peñasco on December 20, 2018.  The office is located in the Municipal Offices which is also where  Mayor “Kiko” Munro’s’ office is.  This building is located on the SE corner of Benito Juarez and Blvd. Freemont and across from Shrimp Park.  This is a free service, designed to increase communication between American citizens in Puerto Peñasco and the American Citizen Services staff in Nogales.  If you have questions or concerns that you’d like to discuss with a Consulate representative, please join us during OFFICE HOURS.  These will be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. on the dates listed below.  Please visit the Office of Economic Development on the first floor of the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) in Puerto Peñasco, where an American volunteer will connect you with us via Skype. Here is the schedule for the next several calls: January 10th and 31st from 12:00 – 2:00, February 21st from 12:00 – 2:00 and March 4th from 12:00 to 2:00.  The office will be open with myself, Beverly Arrowood or Rick Busa who are the volunteers for the consulate office.  We are here to assist American citizens in need of services out of the Nogales office.  The Citizen Liaison Volunteers used to be called “wardens” but this was changed near the end of 2018.  You will find volunteers in cities in Mexico that have large American populations. We will be using SKYPE so that if you as a resident or visitor to Rocky Point, you will be connected directly with the U.S. Consulate in Nogales.

Some of the other things that the Consulate General can aid with are routine services such as passports, consular reports of births abroad and notary services.  They also handle emergency services including deaths, arrests, welfare and whereabouts cases as well as missing persons.  If you have a question, that we can’t answer on the spot, it will be researched and you will receive an answer.

In addition to the Virtual office, the Consulate does “Town Hall” meetings with residents and visitors once a quarter in Rocky Point.  These meetings deal with everything from police stoppings to real estate issues and more.  You can set an appointment prior to the meeting if you have an issue that only applies to you and not the general public.  The Consulate General encourages all residents full or part time to come and participate in the “town hall” meetings.

Come out and join the fun while enjoying the beautiful weather in Puerto Peñasco and the stunning  Sea of Cortez views.  Remember Rocky Point is only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix or Tucson.
