Once again Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner. If you still have not made your reservations for a condo on Sandy Beach or a beach front home in Las Conchas, now is the time as many are already booked full.
In May the weather is still beautiful and the Sea of Cortez will be warming up. Looking for something to do while you are in Rocky Point? Here are just a few ideas. Go horseback riding, ride a banana boat, choose from one of our 3 beautiful golf courses (Las Palomas, Mayan, Isla la Del Mar) choose from of our local fishing charters boats, visit the aquarium or CEDO, walk in the tide pools, go looking for Sand Dollars in Cholla Bay, shop on Rodeo Drive or the Malecon (if you can get down there), visit the Pinacate Biosphere or just sit on the beach and people watch. Puerto Peñasco has so much to offer. Also plan to have breakfast lunch or dinner at one of our many great restaurants.
As you make your trip to Puerto Peñasco, please remember you will not be on the roads alone, so plan on lengthy delays coming in and going back to the USA. As I always say, “Remember all those wonderful people you crept along with on the way in…. well guess what, you will see them again on your way home. Drive with caution as the beach and the cold beer can and will be waiting for you.
Once you are here and settled in, it is important to realize how many people descend on this one time sleepy little village. Don’t take needless chances passing autos or trucks, it is not worth it. Also it is important to know that the road between Playa Bonita and the end of Sandy Beach will be packed at all times. Yes it is a divided road but you still have to exercise caution when driving and even though you may not be impaired, the person behind you might be. Have a designated driver if you all are planning to par take in adult beverages. Better yet, take a cab then everyone can have fun. If you are going to any place on the way to Cholla Bay, please remember that when you are coming back if it is dark, you come off of dirt onto pavement right in front of Esmeralda and that is a divided road.
Before leaving the USA, you need to buy Mexican Auto Insurance. This can be purchased online or in Ajo at Ajo Insurance Center, Gila Bend Insurance Center or any of the other places that sell Mexican Insurance. It would be recommended if you have a newer vehicle that has a loan on, make certain to buy full coverage. By law you must have Mexican Insurance to meet the Mexican Liability. Liability insurance only will do nothing for you vehicle so that is why you should buy full coverage. Ajo Insurance will leave your policy in a box in case you come after hours or you can print it online if you are buying it online.
When crossing into Mexico at Lukeville/Sonoyta the speed limit is 40 Km per hour or keep it under 24 mph or you will most likely be ticketed. There is a Red Cross station that collect donations in Sonoyta and there is a STOP sign there that you must stop for even if you don’t donate. When you arrive in Rocky Point, they are many new stop signs so be on the lookout.
We welcome you to our home town so please come and enjoy everything we have to offer.

Come out and join the fun while enjoying the beautiful weather in Puerto Peñasco and the stunning Sea of Cortez views. Remember Rocky Point is only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix or Tucson.
