WOW, soon it will be 2018! Where has 2017 gone? Glad the internet is around to do bill pay as I recall writing checks for everything and then it would take 6 months before I would get the new year correct. Times have changed and now I get annoyed in a store when someone writes a check and is holding up the line.

During 2017 we have seen a lot of good things happening here in Puerto Peñasco and there is promise of more to come in 2018. It was recently announced at the Arizona/Mexico Commission Meetings the construction on the Home Port will resume. That is to the credit of Governor Doug Ducey from Arizona and Governor Claudia Pavlovich the Governor from the State of Sonora. When this project becomes a reality, it will be a boom for both Arizona and Puerto Peñasco. Goods and service will come to the port from Arizona and employment for not only construction of the facilities but helping with the cruise ships, thus putting many more locals to work. One cruise line has signed a letter of intent to do the route.
Secondly we have seen tourism really blossom. In summer Rocky Point was full almost all of the time with families from El Paso, Juarez, Chihuahua and from the south of Mexico. We saw an increase in traffic from New Mexico and Texas. During USA holidays, the town is packed, thus creating lengthy delays coming into Mexico as well as the return to the USA. But never the less tourism continues to grow. Now that it is winter the retired folks are back in the RV Parks and they are all getting full again, even the off the beach ones are filling up.
Why do I mention these 2 items? It is because of the economic impact tourism has on Puerto Peñasco. The hospitality taxes increase thus allowing the city to better the infrastructure. Many folks are now again buying condos, lots and homes so the real estate sales are again on the rise. Shop owners are again selling their merchandise and restaurants and bars are doing very well.
We are seeing an increase in the construction of new hotels, bars and restaurants. All the sales tax again, helps Rocky Point grow. All over town you can see construction and it is moving forward not stalled as in the past.
The second Wind Fan was just installed so as to provide more power to city. There will be a total of 3 when completed.
Some of the developments that have been stalled since the economic nose dive a few years ago are now starting to rebound and have workers running around. The Laguana del Mar golf course has been renamed and hopefully soon you will see model homes being built. Corona del Sol in Las Conchas is again selling and repairs are under way. Playa Azul which is located between Playa Encanto and the Mayan Palace has once again started promoting. All of this is great for Rocky Point.
On a personal note I have several resolutions that I am making and certainly hope to be able to keep.
- #) I hope to be able to do more beach time with my husband and walks on the beach with our 2 German Shepherds Tucker and Frida.
- #) I want to start to do some limited traveling again… it has been to long.
- #) Praying for continued good health for myself and my husband Bill as well as family and friends.
- #) Whale watching is on my radar this winter as they will soon be in the upper Sea of Cortez.
- #) With any luck being able to go the Valle de Guadalupe and do some wineries
- #) Hopefully go back to Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to see family.
- #) To be able to keep writing blog,s as I enjoy it so much.
- #) To continue to meet and make friends.
- #) To be able to be a volunteer for various charity events which is something near and dear to my heart.
#10) To try to have more patience with everything and everyone around me.
I closing I want to wish you all a healthy and Happy New Year. Be safe no matter where your travels take you.
Come down and join the fun while enjoying the beautiful weather in Puerto Peñasco and the stunning Sea of Cortez views. Remember Rocky Point is only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix or Tucson.
