Soon Thanksgiving will be upon us and the weather is beautiful in Puerto Peñasco. The RV Parks of Playa Bonita, Playa del Oro and the Reef are already filling up. Although this is an American holiday, restaurants here cater to our celebration. For many the celebration of Thanksgiving is one of cooking or smoking the Turkey, making all the trimmings and have large gatherings of friends and family. For other’s it is the one time of the year, where some choose to avoid cooking and prefer to have someone else do it for them.
Many of the RV’ers choose to cook the turkeys in their RV and then share with all of their group of friends. One such group from Green Valley, AZ has been doing this for many years and now are over 10 rigs coming down. What a better way to spend the day than sitting on the beach enjoying drinks, great food and friendships while watching the Sea of Cortez go by. If you decide to cook at home, the border side of Mexico has been allowing us to bring in 1 turkey as they recognize our holiday. With all the fresh fruit and vegetables, there is no need to haul anything else down. If you want to order a turkey here, CS Food Services are taking orders. Give Michelle a call at 388-6556 or stop by (orders are being placed November 11, 2017). They will have Butterball and Hormel. The Butterballs average 18 lbs and are aprx.$780 pesos, the Hormel brand is average 12 Lbs at aprx.$360 pesos. Cranberry jelly for a 14 oz can is $42 pesos and Pumpkin Pies are $260 pesos. CS also carries butter, heavy cream, dinner rolls and a lot of other things to make you Thanksgiving Day a success. CS is located off Kino Blvd right in front of Numeros. Sam’s Club has turkeys already, but the are partially smoked and if they are the same as last year had some sort of gelatin covering them.

Things to bring from the USA would be canned pumpkin if you prefer to make your own pies like I do, disposable metal roasting pans, canned or fresh sweet potatoes, cranberries or Pumpkin pies from like COSTCO. If you like to add oysters to your stuffing, this is the place to get them right from the oyster beds.

One restaurant that has been serving up Thanksgiving is Latitude 31. They choose to share their restaurant with families and friends. They will prepare a turkey dinner complete with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, stuffing, cranberries, rolls and the ever favorite Pumpkin Pie. All of this for only $13.50 plus you get to share good times with other ex pats living here. Make your reservation today.

Another favorite is Puesta del Sol at Playa Bonita. If you are staying in the RV Park and choose not to cook, this is a great alternative for you. You still have a great view without the muss and fuss. You can have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner or choose to have it catered and they have several options available for you. Thanksgiving dinner at Puesta del Sol is $12.00 and complete with all the trimmings.

The American Legion is also offering Thanksgiving dinner. Bring a side dish and it is $5.00 USD or $8.00 without. They are located in the Mirador area of Rocky Point. Dinner is served from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.
The last place doing Thanksgiving Dinner is Chef Mickey’s Place on Benito Juarez. The cost is $18.00 USD with all the trimmings and goes from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
One other thing that happens every Thanksgiving weekend is “Art in the Park” in Las Conchas on November 25th from 11:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Go out and see your favorite artist and do your Christmas shopping early.
Come out and join the fun while enjoying the beautiful weather in Puerto Peñasco and the stunning Sea of Cortez views. Remember Rocky Point is only a 4 hour drive from Phoenix or Tucson.
