JJ's Cantina, Santa Claus Club and The Rocky Point Riders in Rocky Point

For many of our Rocky Point families, they barely have enough to eat much less have money for toys or extras that many children take for granted.  It is because of groups like JJ’s Cantina Santa Claus Club that these children have a wonderful Christmas and their families are provided with food and blankets.  We have had an unusually cold winter in December, so these gifts of blankets came none to soon.

According to John Fowler, head organizer for over 32 years, on Christmas Day 9 truckloads of toys and cookies  along with 6  cars  of volunteers  headed out to  the Barrio  to pass out  the goodies.   For  example a Fountain Hills  group helped deliver 920 lbs of clothes, 120 pairs of shoes, 2 totes of personal hygiene items, 200 food bags, 100 bags of dog food, candy as well as bikes and toys just this past week.

ROCKY POINT BIKER TOY RUN

Rocky Point Rally Toy Drive

On January 9th, The Rocky Point  Riders along with the other 4 bike clubs here in Puerto Peñasco delivered toys and bikes to the Esperanza Barrio. Although the weather had been very cold and rainy in the days before and after, God opened up the sky with a beautiful warm sunny day for this event.  This is an area very close to the prison off Samuel Ocana and Constitution.  About 30 bikers followed the trucks loaded with toys and bikes and headed out to the Barrio.  Here we were greeted by a bunch of happy well behaved children and their parents.  The list of people who donated money, toys and blankets is to large to name everyone.  Each child was given a ticket in days before the event and that day and they filed past the tables loaded with toys, soccer balls, dolls, etc and got to choose their new toy.  The toy drive started last year under the direction of Oscar Palacio, the founder of the Annual Bike Rally and it looks like this will be ongoing as the clubs were already talking about and planning  next year.  I would say we had at least 750 children were there.  Bikers will again be encouraged to bring down toys from the US for the 2016 Bike Rally and will be accumulated to pass out in 2017.  The Christian Riders came down with Selena and Joe Keesacker, parents of Sami Rivera, who also acts as event coordinator for the Bike Rally.  This group sent both money and toys .  So if you have a group or just want to get involved please send me an email to nocomosi@msn.com or contact RP360 and we will get you on our volunteer list.  If you are coming down and just want to leave some new toys during the year, please feel free to do so and we will store them until next January.
