Well, the thing that so many have worked on for a year is almost here. I am talking about the ROCKY POINT RALLY. It was started 15 years a go by Oscar Palacio and “you have come along way baby” applies to this event. When it first started, we were stopping the bikes on the highway as they came into town. Sometime 20 of them at a time. They paid a small amount of money and we thanked them for being in our little city and we tagged their wrists with a band that matched their bike number. Contrary what you are probably thinking, it was not in case the misplaced their bikes, but to get access to the” Hog Pens.” We had a short time to talk with them and off they went, many of them had never been here before. Have fond memories of one group of about 25, who let me talk..talk..talk and finally the leader gave me the time out signal and then they all took out the ear plugs! Great memories of Puerto Peñasco.
Oscar and Sami Keesacker are to be commended for their hard work and long hours of dedication in getting this organized. One never realizes how much goes into putting on event of this magnitude even in a small city…. but is countless hours and the planning for next year starts when this one is over.
Now we are expecting nearly 7500 bikers. WOW Rocky Point will be humming and we love that sound. Registration has changed and we now have 22 volunteers and most of them can’t wait to do it again next year. At this time, I would like to personally thank them for the dedication and hard work. Try standing and walking on black to for 9 hours 2 days back to back. So thank you to the following volunteers: Ron and Judy Ridgeway, Robyn and Gary Montgomery, Bill Arrowood, Bill Bingham, Rick Busa, Randy Magi, Judy Singleton, Randi Alcott, Terry Erbas, Linda Plante, Adrianne Savoy, Diane Crossgrove, Janet Green, Olivia Fawcett, Linda Smith, Robin Winters and Bob Feinman. We all look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to Rocky Point.
We will start registration on the 12th at 9:30 am at the Barlin Circle L south of the new over pass. You won’t be able to miss us, we will have a huge Law Tiger Balloon as a landmark. and will go until 5:30. Same schedule will be for the 13thm, same place. It is like a little mini circus, with bikes rolling in and registering, grabbing some great food and a cold beer, filling up with gas and catching up with their buddies. So many of the guys and gals come every year that it does make it fun. Registration is $20 USD or $300MN and that gives a bag full of goodies.
