Shopping in Puerto Peñasco

A walk along the Malecon in Puerto Peñasco, also known as “Old Port”, is definitely a great opportunity to relax and admire the endless natural beauty that the Port has, but it is also an option for those who love “shopping” for each of the corners of this area lies a bit of the history of the city transformed into a unique piece of art.
If you’re looking for a souvenir for you or to take home to your family members or friends, you will find plenty of shops where you can find things for everyone, from jewelry to all kinds of decorations, there are also galleries where they sell exclusive furniture designs and art pieces from the region and will surely give your home that special touch you’ve been looking for.
Another site in Rocky Point that offers such items is located on the road called Rodeo Drive which takes you to La Cholla. Here you can find a wide variety of “curios” at low and affordable prices that can fit any budget: zarapes, hand woven rugs, Talavera, clay plates, hats, dresses and embroidered blankets and the list is endless, but I can assure you that you will find the perfect gift for you to take back home.
One of the pieces that I personally love, are known as “coritas”, baskets that are hand woven by indigenous Sonoran women. These are made from desert plants named palmillo and torote and they are elaborate crafts that required a quite complex process. Some of these baskets are decorated beautifully with figures of inspiration, traditions and beliefs of “Papago” (one of the seven ethnic groups living in Sonora). Although the prices may be a little high the handcrafted art is worth every penny.
Another favorite of mine is the hand woven wire (thread, material) bracelets, or “friendship bracelets”, which although very simple, are a fun accessory that gives a fresh, look for your beach vacation, they are super accessible, so surely you can buy more than one.

Another place where you can find great gifts is the beach. Here you will find hundreds of vendors selling a variety of crafts, so if your visit is for a short time and will like to spend every minute near the sea don’t worry, because if you cannot go to the curios stores, they will come to you and while you rest lying on the white sands of Rocky Point, you can purchase that “something” that will remind you of the wonderful days you spent in Sonoran lands.
