Only domestic animals (dogs and cats) are allowed into Mexico. You need to carry a copy of your pet’s current rabies vaccination certificate in case you are asked for it as you cross into Mexico.
Mexico has many stray animals roaming the streets so please keep an eye on your pet. Many pets are lost in Rocky Point each year due to unfamiliar surroundings and firework noise.
If your animal is lost while visiting Rocky Point, we have found the best thing to do is scout the area where he/she was last seen. You can also pass out fliers to taxi drivers and water truck delivery men and post them all over town. Putting an announcement on the local AM and FM Radio stations are also a good idea. Be Sure you have a collar and tag on your animal as well as a current photo.
Contrary to popular belief, your pet is NOT welcome at most establishments, Especially where food is served. Please check with the staff before bringing your pet inside as the business can be fined for Health violations.
If you are on need of veterinary services, you may want to contact the Veterinary Services and Pet Hotel located in Blvd. Sonora and Galeana which is 2 blocks off Blvd. Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez. This facility offers 24 hours emergency services. It is open 9-1pm and 4-8pm daily. Services include: emergency care, examinations, spay and neuter, dental care, check-ups, grooming, surgery, x-rays, shots, etc.. Dr. Fernando Rincon is the vet doctor for this facility.
Small reminder to pet lovers....the animals in Rocky Point need your help. The Rocky Point Adoption Center is feeding hundreds of dogs and cats every year. They also provide free spay and neuter programs. They are in need of dog food or other donations which can be dropped off by calling 011-52-638-383-1012 or 602-412-3932 (ask for Nancy). This center is looking to open a new shelter on the outskirts of Puerto Penasco and finish converting the existing mobile animal clinic.
